Amsterdam

It was time to cash in on the IOU a trip to Amsterdam, 2020 Christmas present from himself lol. After an evening of nosing online I found bargain flights with Ryanair and that was the dates set in motion. A hotel on the other hand was no so simple. I got online and booked a hotel that was good location and a good price but the week before the trip I double checked reviews and they were terrible... PANICKED TARA was in motion now!! Thankfully my other half's mother is a travel guru and she found me a fabulous hotel at a great price.... I could have kissed her feet for saving the day. We got booked into the Room Mate Aitana. The day had finally arrived and it was time to cruise down to the airport and get on our way. We flew out of Dublin airport. Ryanair had notified us to be there at least 3 hours before because of security and I would strongly agree. We were the last flight out to Amsterdam that day and the airport was so busy. Security was insane and definitely took up time so if your travelling go with lots of time to spare. After all that and some food it was time to hit the sky. They flight was super quick we were no time up until we were back down. We got the train from the airport into the city which was approx. €7 each. We got out at the train station and instantly the beauty of Amsterdam hit me.

We walked around the city, got a bite to eat and headed to the hotel to check in. The hotel was not right in the centre but a short walk out but worth every step. The hotel was stunning and the room spacious and airy. After a good nights sleep it was time to get up and out. We headed into the centre to get some breakfast and then start our sightseeing. The cute cafes by the canals made my heart melt. Once we were fed we took the free ferry across the river to A'Dam Lookout which has the prettiest views over the city from their bar and restaurant so of course we grabbed a drink and enjoyed the views. We then headed up to the roof and I was a big brave girl and did the swing out over the edge of the building (side note …. I don't like heights). After a minute of getting over the fear I relaxed and enjoyed the experience of swinging over the edge of a building and taking in the beautiful views.

It was an amazing experience and one I will always remember. After that we headed back into the city and went to a few museums. The line to get into Madame Tussauds was insane so we opted for Ripley's Believe It or Not and what a good choice it was. Then we did the 1 hour river cruise which was approx. €15 each and worth it. We went down the rivers and canals to see all the beautiful sights and buildings. There is so much beauty to the city.

Between the walking around and taking it all in we were tired so we headed for dinner and went to a cute little Chinese (most places are little as the buildings are so narrow lol). After dinner we walked about to take the city in at night because at night its a different kind of pretty. I honestly found it so funny how one minute we were walking past crepe shops and the next it was women in windows. lol. The red light district just appears. It is honestly amazing how normal it is and how strange it is for us to see but definitely recommend walking around to see it as it is part of their culture. Our final day arrived and we were sad to see it come round. Once we checked out of the hotel we headed back into the centre to get some food and a little shopping before a last walk around the city and the last cocktail of the trip is always a must lol.

I kept my packing light and my Amsterdam fashion simple yet chic. I took the biker leggings in tan and black, the white kylie shirt, Roxanne denim blouse and the willow beige sweatshirt. All fitted into my cabin approved backpack which I got from home bargains for £10. I feel like the queen of travelling light and still being a fashionista lol. Until I travel again. Tara x
